Welcome to the Kimberley Emergency Management District portal
The Kimberley District is a remote and sparsely populated area with extensive pristine areas covering 424,517km2.
The population of the Kimberley, numbering approximately 40,000, is considered to be culturally diverse. Approximately 50 per cent of the population is made up of over 60 different Aboriginal language groups.
The Kimberley has a sub-tropical climate characterised by a 'dry' and a 'wet' season with most activity occurring in the dry season from May until October.
The Shires of Broome, Halls Creek, Derby-West Kimberley and Wyndham-East Kimberley are the four Local Governments that operate within the district.
The district economy is diverse and includes tourism, agriculture - pastoral, fishing - aquaculture, mining, energy, construction and retail. The district's gross regional product is approximately $3.2 billion per annum.
Natural and man-made hazard events occur throughout the region. The identified priority hazards (as identified by the State Risk Project) include: Bushfire, Cyclone, Flood, Human Epidemic and Road Transport Emergency.
